Day 1 | BEIJING Arrival day |
Day 2 | FIRST FORTRESS UNDER HEAVEN Take the train to Qinghuangdao, visit the First Pass under Heaven at Shanghaiguan where the Eastern end of the Great Wall meets the China Sea.

Day 3 | GREAT WALL Hike along original sections of the wall, camping nearby to appreciate the splendid mountain scenery.

Day 6 | BEIJING Return to Beijing for some creature comforts.

Day 7 | BEIJING - SIMATAI Hike spectacular but little visited sections of the wall. We end high on the amazing Simatai ridge.

Day 9 | ZHONGWEI Fly to Yinchuan and transfer to Zhongwei. Perhaps visit the eclectic Gao Miao temple for fine views and a truly mind-boggling array of religions.

Day 10 | SHEEP-SKIN RAFTING We drive out of town and board our rafts before drifting slowly down the Yellow River, with glimpses of the Great Wall along the way.

Day 12 | WUWEI Travel to the ancient Silk Road city of Wuwei in the Hexi Corridor. A free day to explore this rarely visited but pleasant town.

Day 14 | JIAYUGUAN Travel to Jiayuguan to visit the Fort and western end of the Wall. Continue to Dunhuang.

Day 16 | DUNHUANG Visit the amazing Buddhist Mogao Grottoes and Crescent Moon Lake at the foot of immense dunes.

Day 17 | CAMEL SAFARI We ride out into the Taklamakan Desert for two nights under the stars and a conclusion to our great adventure - the Yumen Pass Gate, a remote Great Wall outpost.

Day 20 | BEIJING Return to Beijing for last night celebrations.
