ST LUCIA IN A NUTSHELL
This lush, mountainous island is a favourite amongst honeymooners especially, and it's not difficult to understand why. Romantic St Lucia boasts truly impressive tropical mountain scenery, not least the famous towering Pitons, as well as some delightful beaches and coral reefs (especially in the south). The rich volcanic soil makes it particularly fertile with 18,000 acres of central rainforest and lush banana and coconut plantations. The French influence, dating back to the 18th century, can still be felt in the French place names and patois language spoken by many islanders. Let us know what you're looking for and we'll suggest the best choice of hotel to help you make the most of this alluring island.
CARIBTOURS' PERSONAL VIEW
Sarah recommends dinner at Dasheene (at Ladera in the south) as a must, not least for its fabulous cuisine and the breathtaking views of the Pitons. "St Lucia is a great island for exploring whether you are into hiking, mountain-biking or something less strenuous – but car hire is definitely not for the fainthearted due to the winding roads. I prefer to use local taxis or jeep excursions."
Caribtours is particularly proud to have been named as St Lucia's 'Best Producer for Small Hotels and Inns 2003' at a recent ceremony in London (March 2004).
DID YOU KNOW...?
St Lucia boasts two Nobel Prize winners – Sir Arthur Lewis for Economics and Derek Walcott for Literature. Did you also know that one of the local fruits is called Love Apple – a small crunchy fruit, pink on the outside with a white papery inside?
Anse Chastanet is a truly unique tropical hideaway. With its spectacular views, it is ideal for romantics looking for privacy and seclusion in a rustic setting – but with all the creature comforts.
With activities such as mountain biking and the excellent off-shore reefs, protected within a National Marine Park, Anse Chastanet also works well for families with older children and couples who want more than simply lazing on the beach.
LOCATION
On and above a secluded bay, 1 hour from Hewanorra International Airport.
SPECIAL INFORMATION
No children under 4 yrs.
The steep steps between the beach, restaurant and hillside guest rooms make Anse Chastanet unsuitable for those with walking difficulties.
