THE VIRGIN ISLANDS
BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS IN A NUTSHELL
The British Virgin Islands are a glorious cluster of some 60 secluded islands for those seeking relaxation and tranquillity, with little development apart from a handful of outstanding resorts – the tourist board justifiably calls the BVIs "nature's little secrets". Barefoot luxury is the order of the day and you'll find it hard to resist the crystal clear waters, whether it's for a spot of snorkelling, scubadiving or sailing (which is amongst the best in the world).
US VIRGIN ISLANDS IN A NUTSHELL
We are delighted to introduce the US Virgin Islands to our programme; Caneel Bay is located on St John, the smallest of the three major islands which make up this stunning archipelago. Much of St John is a national park with 9,500 acres of green hills and protected turquoise waters; it is a perfect choice for those who enjoy the natural environment. Aside from the activities available within the resort, you might wish to enjoy a guided kayak tour through the marine sanctuary and mangrove lagoon or perhaps wander around St John’s historic colonial forts and restored plantations.
CARIBTOURS' PERSONAL VIEW
Paul enjoyed a wonderful holiday in the BVIs: "The sheer natural beauty is breathtaking and my favourite memory is of exploring uninhabited coves and glorious beaches on my Boston Whaler dinghy – the reefs are so healthy and the water is so clear. I felt I was truly a million miles away from 'real life'." Speak to Sarah too – she has just spent her honeymoon at Little Dix and Biras Creek. Ana has recently stayed at Caneel Bay and was overwhelmed by the tranquillity and natural beauty of St John and the resort itself.
DID YOU KNOW...?
There is one remaining inhabitant on Salt Island who still harvests salt from the salt ponds – one bag a year is sent to HM The Queen. The Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke is so-called as it is only accessible by swimming ashore with obvious results!
This private hideaway revels in its unique setting within a 140 acre nature reserve on Virgin Gorda. From the moment you arrive on the private launch, you feel yourself slipping into the relaxed pace of life.
A key part of Biras Creek’s unique appeal is the use of complimentary ‘self-drive’ motorised Boston Whaler dinghies, affording guests an ideal opportunity to island-hop around the beautiful uninhabited coves and beaches, only minutes away.
Biras Creek is a favourite amongst honeymooners – not least our recently-married Travel Counsellor, Sarah!
Managed by husband and wife team Michael and Lu Nijdam, Biras Creek is a member of Relais & Chateaux.
