This route is perfect for those who would like to venture a little further but not too far from Cape Town. It combines the coastal towns of Hermanus and Arniston, famous for its whale-watching season during the months of July to November, with a part of the spectacular Garden Route before returning to Cape Town. |

Day 1 | Depart the UK on scheduled flights in the late afternoon/evening. | Day 2 | You journey starts when you depart Cape Town for Hermanus. This is a beautiful and scenic drive through breathtaking countryside, over passes and through towns of Somerset West and Grabouw. Hermanus is a very popular seaside resort town. It is famous for its whales (during the months of July to November), safe beaches, the lagoon for water sports, the Fernkloof Nature Reserve and the extensive cliff top walk with endless vistas of the rocky coastline. You will stay overnight in or around Hermanus. | Day 3 | Today’s drive will take you via Bredasdorp to Arniston. You may be interested in visiting the Shipwreck Museum in Bredasdorp that features many of the ships that have been wrecked on the region’s most notorious coast. Stand on the southernmost tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas, which is where the Atlantic and Indian Ocean meet. You will spend the night in Arniston, a picturesque village of thatched lime-washed fishermen’s cottages. | Day 4 | Today’s journey will be slightly longer than the first 2 days because you venture a little further, entering the region known as the Garden Route. Drive past the charming and unique little towns of Swellendam, Mossel Bay, George and Sedgefield on you way to Knysna. This popular resort town is where you will spend the next two nights, as it is well known for its lagoon, forest and coastal countryside. | Day 5 | Spend the day exploring the various activities in Knysna. Visit the Knysna Heads, two tall sandstone cliffs guarding the Knysna Lagoon. The Eastern Head affords splendid views of Knysna and Leisure Island while the Western Head is the Featherbed National Reserve,accessible only by boat and ferry. Here you can do a guided nature trail or have a gourmet meal of oysters and champagne in the forest restaurant. While in Knysna you can visit the craft markets or do a boat cruise on the lagoon. | Day 6 | Travel over the Outeniqua Pass and through the town of George to Oudtshoorn, commonly known as the ‘Feather Capital’ of South Africa. There are also the Cango Caves and the Cango Wildlife Ranch (crocodile, cheetah and snake park) to see while you are in the area. You will spend the night in Oudtshoorn. | Day 7 | Today you will head back along route 62 visiting small villages and rural towns to Cape Town. The rest of the day is free to explore Cape Town. | Day 8 | Free in Cape Town. | Day 9 | Transfer to the airport in the late afternoon in time for your flight back to the UK. | Day 10 | Arrive UK. |
