Cordillera Real Llama Trek Lake Titicaca and a classic trek amid Bolivias pristine Andean summits
This is tough high-altitude trek through Bolivia's majestic Cordillera Real. We begin beside Lake Titicaca, a place of extraordinary beauty, where to aid acclimatisation there is some easy walking around the lakeshore and on the Islands of the Sun and the Moon, some of the most sacred places of the Inca Empire. To the east of the lake a vast pristine region of hanging valleys, iceberg-studded lakes, immense boulder fields and waterfalls lies below a string of beautiful peaks. From Illampu (6362m) and Ancohuma (6427m) in the north-west to beyond Illimani (6439m) in the south-east, the Cordillera Real offers some of the most dramatic scenery in the Andes and it is here that we trek in the traditional Andean way, with llamas carrying our baggage, before finally travelling on to Bolivia's capital, La Paz.
