In a recent BBC Holiday poll of 50 things to do before you die, Whale watching, diving with sharks and swimming with dolphins were voted the 4th, 5th and the most popular choices. Here is a chance to experience them all on one stunning holiday, while taking in the beauty of South Africas Garden Route and ending in Cape Town. You only live once!
This is a private tour (minimum 2 people). It can depart on any day you wish (subject to availability).
Please let us know you preferred dates and we will forward a full tailored itinerary with confirmed quotation to you by e-mail and/or post. |
Day 1 | Depart the UK on scheduled flights in the late afternoon/ evening. | Day 2 | Met upon arrival in Johannesburg. Assistance provided to domestic departures for flight to Port Elizabeth. Upon arrival in Port Elizabeth, pick up hired vehicle, group B – VW Polo or similar. Depart to first destination, Plettenberg Bay. | Day 3 | Day spent at leisure or you have the opportunity of joining a Boat cruise to catch a glimpse of dolphins and the odd occasional Orcas. .
In our compact one and a half hour tour we endeavor to show and teach our guests as much as possible. It is the ideal alternative for those with time restraints. Throughout the whole year you can observe the playful and very active Bottlenose Dolphins, which are often encountered in large groups.
The rare and shy Indopacific Humpback Dolphin is a worldwide endangered species and small pods live along our coastline.
The fascinating Common Dolphins, very agile and one of the fastest swimmers, occur in large groups of 2000 or more individuals, further out on the open sea.
Orcas or Killer Whales, which also belong to the dolphin family are transient in this ocean and occur occasionally throughout the year. Please note that these are wild dolphins and swimming with then is not allowed. Experiencing them in their natural habitat and hearing them communicate is more that enough. | Day 4 | Day at leisure. You may wish to travel out again by boat to look at the dolphins. If you fancy a day on dry land there are optional excurions to a primate sanctuary or Elephant park. | Day 5 | Depart this morning after breakfast to Hermanus. Hermanus is also known as ‘The Riviera of the South’ – which boasts the best land-based whale watching in the world. Other attractions of this popular resort town include the world’s only whale crier, township tours, the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, and abalone hatchery, pristine beaches, a vibrant fishing and harbour community, the Hermanus Wine Meander and various sporting facilities – including firest rate golf courses and scuba diving sites. | Day 6 | Today explore the waters again but this time for the mighty Great White Shark. The tour comprises:
08h00 - Breakfast is served at a quaint restaurant in Gansbaai, with mountain and sea v views. Safety briefing by tour guide.
09h00 - Launch from Kleinbaai Harbour. 30 min later, anchor in or nearby “Shark Alley”.
12h00 - Snacks, fruit, and drinks are served on-board.
14h30 - Return to Kleinbaai harbour.
15h00 - Lunch/wine served at a restaurant, situated on the cliffs of Walker Bay, Hermanus, known as the best area in the world for whale spotting (August – November).
To enjoy this tour, you do not HAVE to dive. Viewing from the boat is equally spectacular, as the sharks come very close to the side of the vessel.
WHITE SHARK VIEWING:
Sharks are surface feeders by nature, ensuring spectacular surface action which often takes place “too close for comfort”! Surface viewers therefore take the pound seat on our specially designed observation platform, with camera’s close at hand. From the safety of the boat, you are able to photograph your friend/s in the cage and at the same time follow the sharks as they move around the boat and cage. Be careful not to miss out on good photographs. Breaching often takes place in the high season and if you are not 100% ready, you may miss out on a good picture. | Day 7 | Depart after breakfast this morning and make your way to Cape Town. After check-in, balance of day spent at your own leisure. | Day 8 | Free in Cape Town. | Day 9 | Free in Cape Town. | Day 10 | Transfer to the airport in the late afternoon in time for your flight back to the UK. | Day 11 | Arrive UK. |
