ANTIGUA IN A NUTSHELL
Historical forts, sugar mills, museums and harbours may not sound like your idea of a tropical holiday destination but, put them together on a Caribbean island along with 365 sweeping white sand beaches and coves and you have Antigua, otherwise known as the "Heart of the Caribbean". There's no doubt that the beaches on both Antigua and Barbuda are truly spectacular but we think you'll also love the opportunity to explore the island's other places of interest, many of which are closely linked with our own British history. An added attraction for 2004 is the West Indies v England 4th Test from 10-14 April inclusive.
CARIBTOURS' PERSONAL VIEW
A highlight for Gemma is the Sunday night "jump-up" on Shirley Heights – "watch the beautiful sunset while listening to steel pan music before a delicious barbecue and party time to a local reggae band." Sally adds: "The beaches are the main attraction but I would recommend at least a day trip to Barbuda to see the amazing frigate bird sanctuary"
DID YOU KNOW...?
Fig Tree Drive is in fact named after the banana trees – Antiguans call bananas ‘figs’. If an Antiguan says to you "later will be greater" he or she means "good-bye".
Galley Bay is a truly special hideaway – the pace is unhurried and the setting is breathtaking. This delightful and friendly beach resort is a perennial favourite amongst our clients, especially honeymooners, as well as the Caribtours team and it has one of the highest repeat guest rates amongst our clientele.
One of the key attractions is the fabulous location of the higher category rooms – those on the lower floor open out directly on to the beach.
