Indian Lands Self Drive Tour This trips offers the best of the American south west and is of special interest to those interest in the Native American cultures and history. You start in Tucson, a modern city with a diversity of Spanish/Mexican and western American culture, with optional visits to the Tucson Studios, Tombstone and the Sonoran Desert Museum. You then head on to Gallup where the next four days will be spent within the Hopi and Navajo nations. Visit the Petrified Forest National park and Painted Cliffs. Enter the Zuni Indian Reservation at their New Mexico border. You then move on to Window Rock, capital of the Navajo Nation and Chinle. Explore areas including St Michael's Mission and the Navajo Tribal Museum. In Ganado see Hubbell Historic Site and Trading Post. You also visit the stunning Monument Valley, the towering buttes and moving sand dunes make this valley a bizarre and spectacularly beautiful place. You then head to a Hopi Indian Reservation. The Third Mesa is thought to be the oldest inhabited settlement in the US.

Day 1
Arrive Tucson. This is a modern city with a diversity of Spanish/Mexican and western American culture. Time for optional visits to the Tucson Studios, Tombstone and the Sonoran Desert Museum. Overnight Smugglers Inn.
Day 2
Depart Tucson heading north for Show Low and Holbrook. En route you will pass Globe, Fort Apache Indian Reservation and the Mogollan Rim. Visit the Navajo County Museum in Holbrook. Overnight BW Adobe Inn, Holbrook. Approx mileage 237.
Day 3
Depart for Gallup, the next four days will be spent within the Hopi and Navajo nations. Visit the Petrified Forest National park and Painted Cliffs. Enter the Zuni Indian Reservation at their New Mexico border. Enjoy the galleries and shops in Gallup. Overnight Navajo Nation Inn. Approx mileage 172.
Day 4
Depart for Window Rock, capital of the Navajo Nation and Chinle. Explore areas including St Michael's Mission and the Navajo Tribal Museum. In Ganado see Hubbell Historic Site and Trading Post. Overnight Holiday Inn, Chinle (entrance to Canyon De Chelly) Approx mileage 104.
Day 5
Travelling north to Kayenta there will be time to explore both the north and south rim routes and to learn of the Anasazi 'The Ancient Ones'. White Horse Ruin can be hiked in two hours or join a 4X4 wheel drive tour of the canyon. By mid-morning head for Kayenta and Monument Valley. overnight San Juan Inn of Mexican Hat. Approx mileage 81.
Day 6
Depart for Monument Valley, the towering buttes and moving sand dunes make this valley a bizarre and spectacularly beautiful place. Head to Hopi Indian Reservation. Third Mesa is thought to be the oldest inhabited settlement in the US. Visit the Cultural Centre on Second Mesa. overnight at Hopi Cultural Centre Motel. Approx mileage 118.
Day 7
Continue exploring Hopi Villages. Mid afternoon depart for Winslow and Flagstaff. Visit Museum of Northern Arizona. Overnight at Radisson Woodlands Hotel, Flagstaff. Approx mileage 125.
Day 8
Depart for Kaibab National Forest and the Grand Canyon National Park. Tours available are hiking, mule trips, helicopter trips and bus tours. Depart Grand Canyon Village along the east rim towards the Desert View Watch Tower. Overnight as above. Approx mileage 190Day 9. leave Flagstaff descending into Oak Tree Canyon and the breathtaking Red Rock Country of Sedona. At Montezuma's Castle National Monument are cliff dwellings of the ancient Sinagua Indians. Depart for overnight accommodations at Radisson Airport Hotel, Phoenix. Approx mileage 150 Day 10. Return rental car.
