This lush, mountainous island is a favourite amongst honeymooners especially, and it's not difficult to understand why. The rich volcanic soil makes it particularly fertile with 18,000 acres of central rainforest and lush banana and coconut plantations. The French influence, dating back to the 18th century, can still be felt in the French place names and patois language spoken by many islanders. Sarah recommends dinner at Dasheene (at Ladera in the south) as a must, not least for its fabulous cuisine and the breathtaking views of the Pitons. "St Lucia is a great island for exploring whether you are into hiking, mountain-biking or something less strenuous – but car hire is definitely not for the fainthearted due to the winding roads. I prefer to use local taxis or jeep excursions."

112 Sugar Mill Rooms, Villa Rooms and Villa Suites, all elegantly furnished with airconditioning and ceiling fans, mini bar, coffee maker, satellite TV and VCR.
The two Sugar Mill buildings –ideal for families with younger children as they are closer to the main facilities – offer spacious rooms with a terrace overlooking the gardens towards the pool and beach.
The Villa Rooms and Villa Suites are tucked away in cottages on the hillside to offer a sense of privacy whilst taking full advantage of the stunning views; Villa Suites have a separate living area and can connect with Villa Rooms to make a Two Bedroom Suite (connecting via the patio).
