Kathmandu And The Nepal Himalaya A comfortable exploration of the beautiful Kingdom of Nepal
The Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating countries in the world. From the highest point on earth to the jungle lowlands along the edge of the great Gangetic Plain, it includes an enormous variety of scenery. Nepal is also rich in culture: the Kathmandu Valley is a living museum with hundreds of highly decorated temples scattered through its towns and villages. The abundance of plant and animal life makes the country a naturalists paradise whilst the ever-present backdrop of mountains is unsurpassed anywhere else on earth. For many visitors, though, it is the friendliness of the Nepali people which leaves the most lasting impression of this mountain kingdom. Each party will be accompanied by a local representative who will be on hand to answer questions and organise the sightseeing and walks. The party can choose which sights to visit and where to walk, allowing maximum flexibility whilst providing the support that makes any visit to Nepal more enjoyable. Kathmandu is a must, and there is time to explore the temples and markets on foot before driving to Nagarkot on the rim of the valley for a spectacular mountain panorama. Pokhara is perhaps even more spectacularly-situated than Kathmandu. On the shores of a lake and in the shadow of the mighty Annapurnas, it is a perfect base for walking or relaxing. Royal Chitwan National Park is Nepal's premier wildlife habitat with a mix of sub-tropical forest and river margin that provides superb bird-watching possibilities. Perhaps more importantly it is home to the endangered Asian one-horned rhino and Bengal tiger. Returning to Kathmandu there is time to take an optional Everest mountain flight and see many of the world's highest peaks in surprising close-up.

Further Information
Special equipment required: 2 season warm jacket, (3 season for December departure), comfortable walking shoes, waterproof jacket and sunhat.

Extra Expenses:
allow around £65 for main meals not included. No entrance fees are included to the various temples and other sites and we recommend allowing around £20 for this. Allow extra for tips, soft drinks etc. If you would like to take the Everest flight the cost is approximately £85. There is an airport tax of approximately £11 on leaving Kathmandu airport.

Meals Included: 9 breakfasts and 1 lunch, and 2 evening meals in Chitwan N. P.

Transport: we use a private vehicle throughout the trip, which may be a car, minibus or coach depending on the size of your party. Optional excursions that are not included in the trip price will usually be organised in taxis.

Children: we suggest this trip is suitable for most children over the age of 8.

Joining locally: the local joining point is the Royal Singi Hotel, Kathmandu. A taxi from the airport to the hotel costs approx £5. You can join in the afternoon or evening of Day 2.

Group & Staff
Min. 2, max. 16, plus leader. Each party is accompanied throughout by a local representative, who will ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible, however they are not leaders or guides. Naturalist guides are provided in Chitwan and our permanent Kathmandu staff are on hand and specialist local guides can be hired at some of the sites.

Accommodation
Our base in Kathmandu is the modern and well-appointed Royal Singi Hotel, conveniently located in the centre of the city and within walking distance of the old city. In both Nagarkot and Pokhara we use resort-style lodges. The comfortable Narayani Safari Lodge in Chitwan is beautifully situated on the Rapti River with a "seasonal" swimming pool, restaurant and bar overlooking a secluded area of the National Park. All accommodation is in twin or single rooms, all with en-suite facilities.

Food
Nepal is not renown for its own cuisine, although Kathmandu has a wide selection of restaurants offering a large range of international fare, including Indian, Tibetan, Thai, Chinese, Italian, French and Austrian. So if you fancy pad thai, spring rolls, pizza or traditional dal bhat there is something for you. The choice in Pokhara is a little more limited, and the jungle lodge has a good restaurant. Breakfast consists of fruit juice, bread, butter, jam and coffee/tea. All lunches and dinners in Kathmandu and Pokhara are not included. You can eat at the hotels or experiment with local restaurants and shops. Wine, beer and soft drinks can be purchased to accompany evening meals. Wherever you eat you should take care to eat only freshly cooked food and drink bottled water.
