Kenya Camping Highlights A Comprehensive overview of Kenya and many of its parks. In the Masai Mara and Amboseli you stay in semi-permanent camps where you find everything ready for you on arrival. Elsewhere you camp in two-man tents, complete with foam matress and are accompanied not only by your guide but also by a cook to prepare all your food.

The joy of camping in Kenya is the chance to get off the beaten track and experience the scale and peace of the wilderness. The Swahili word "safari" means journey and over the years Kenya has become one of the most popular destinations for such an experience. Justifiably so, boasting diverse and beautiful landscapes and the most diverse collection of wild animals on the continent. Situated on Africa’s east coast, Kenya straddles the equator and its eastern coast is lapped by the Indian Ocean. The Rift Valley and central highlands form the backbone of the country, and this is where Kenya’s scenery is at its most spectacular. The vast plains of the south are dotted with flat-topped acacia trees, thorn bushes and the distinctive bottle-shaped Baobab tree. On the rarified slopes of Mt Elgon and Mt Kenya, bamboo forests sprout and even higher up is the bizarre groundsel tree, with its huge cabbage-like flowers, and giant lobelias with long spikes. If you are more into fur and feathers, then head for the teeming game parks. Lions, buffalos, leopards, elephants and rhinos all cavort openly in at least two of the major parks. Endangered animals such as the black rhino are slowly making a comeback and sanctuaries for these creatures can be visited in Lake Nakuru national parks.

Depart the UK.
Day 2
Upon arrival in Nairobi you will be met by your guide and will head off by road to Amboseli National Park, stopping en route for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon there will be time for game viewing before returning to your camp for dinner.

A full day in Amboseli National Park, with morning and afternoon game viewing. This park lies at the foot of Africa's highest mountain Kilimanjaro, whose snow-capped peak dominates the landscape and creats an impressive backdrop to an impressive display of wildlife. Its inhabitants include lion, elephant, leopard, cheetah, buffalo and other savannah game. It is a photographers paradise.
Day 4
After breakfast leave Amboseli first for Nairobi and then on to Mount Kenya, stopping en route for a picnic lunch. Set up camp on arrival. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure exploring the base of Mt.Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa. Sitting on the equator its icy summit rises to a height of 5,199 m. The entire mountain above the 3,200 m. contour forms a National Park with such varied and often unique vegetation that UNESCO has declared it a biosphere reserve.
Day 5
After breakfast continue north to Samburu, arriving in time for lunch. Afternoon game viewing is followed by dinner at the camp.
Day 6
A full day at Samburu with two game viewings; one in the morning and one again in the afternoon. Samburu National Reserve lies on the hot and arid fringes of the vast northern region of Kenya. It lies within the lands of the colourful Samburu tribe and because of their terrain are home to wildlife species rarely found elsewhere, including Grevys zebra, gerenuk gazelle, oryx, reticulated graffe and the Somali ostrich. Some of these species are so well adapted to the dry area that they can go for long periods of time without water, surviving only on moisture obtained from their food. Elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and the more common savannah gane are all abundant here. one of the main features of the area is the Uaso Nyiro River, with its large population of crocodile. Elephants roam the hills which punctuate the scrubland and often seek solace and contentment by bathing in the shallow waters and mud.
Day 7
After breakfast leave for Lake Nakuru, stopping en route for a picnic lunch. On arrival proceed on a late afternoon game drive along the lake shore. Lake Nakuru, a large alkaline lake on the bed of the great rift valley, has earnt its fame as the home of one of the greatest bird spectacles in the world- a myriad of more than one million pink flamingo, which seasonally use its waters to feed on the abundant algae which thrivein its warm waters. Lake Nakuru has a great deal to offer besides its magnificent birdlife however; here you will also find lion, leopard, buffalo and other savannah and forest game which makes the game viewing so worth while. Dinner and overnight at nearby hotel.
Day 8
A picturesque drive across the floor of the Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara, stopping for a picnic lunch. In the later afternoon you head off for a sunset game drive, returning to the camp for dinner.
Day 9
Two full days in the Masai Mara. Each day with two game viewings, one in the morning and one again in the late afternoon. All meals and overnight in the camp. The Masai Mara National Reserve is justly one of the best-known wildlife areas in Kenya. Here herds of elephants browse among rich, tree-studded grasslands. Thomsons gazelles, zebra, eland and many more species of savannah game offer a rich choice for the predatory lions, leopards and cheetahs that hunt in the reserve and the surrounding areas. It is the untouched life of Africa continuing as it has for 1,000's of years.
Day 10
Your second day in the Mara. A typical day on safari starts with a cup of tea or coffee at sunrise, before you embark on an early morning game drive. This will usually last until mid-morning, when you return for a large breakfast. There is then time to relax until lunch and about mid-afternoon, as the day cools and the animals become more active, you start your second game-drive until sunset. It is then back to camp for your evening meal and the chance to relax with a drink under the stars of the African night.
Day 11
After breakfast leave for Nairobi arriving in time for your flight back to the UK.
Day 12
Arrive UK.
