Day 1 | ACCRA (Ghana) Arrive and transfer to your hotel. No meals.

Day 2 | CASTLES - KAKUM NP Travel to Cape Coast and to Kakum NP. We take a canopy walk on the suspended rope bridge - the longest and highest of its kind in the world. Overnight bush camp in the forest. (BLD)

Day 3 | ASHANTI KINGDOM Head north to Kumasi, the historical and spiritual capital of the Ashanti Kingdom. There is time to visit the lively and bustling market as well as the Ghana National Cultural Centre. (BL)

Day 4 | CARAVAN ROUTE - MOLE NATIONAL PARK We follow the ancient caravan routes past Sudanese style mosques to Mole NP, the biggest game reserve in Ghana. (BL)

Day 5 | MOLE NP Explore the park where we may see elephants, antelopes, buffalos, monkeys and hippos. Continue to the Lobi Tribal region and the Black River. Overnight bush camp near the river. (BLD)

Day 6 | LOBI TRIBE - WA Morning spent amongst the fascinating Lobi people with their characteristic mud brick architecture. In the afternoon we'll visit Wa and its Royal Palace, where we meet with the chief and his court. (BL)

Day 7 | NAVRONGO Continue to the Navrongo region, a vast agricultural area with fields of millet, rice and yams. The people here belong to the Gurunsi (or Kassena) tribe who cover the walls of their mud huts with striking murals. Overnight bush camp. (BLD)

Day 8 | TALENSI TRIBE - TONGO - TOGO Drive east to Tongo where we climb onto a high plateau covered in rock pinnacles that the local people consider to be the ancient domicile of the gods. Overnight bush camp northern Togo. (BLD)

Day 9 | MOBA TRIBE - SOKODE Visit traditional villages of the Moba tribe before continuing through the Atakora Mountains where we meet the Tamberma people, who sought refuge from the slave traders here, centuries ago. Evening fire dance in the village. (BL)

Day 10 | SOKODE - KLOTO Moving south through increasingly green and fertile scenery, we pass numerous villages en route to Atakpame, a pretty city surrounded by hills. We'll visit the weavers of 'kente', a tissue used by the local notables for their ceremonial outfits. Overnight forest guesthouse. (BL)

Day 11 | KLOTO Full day of trekking. Overnight forest guesthouse. (BL)

Day 12 | BENIN We cross the border into Benin. Visit the Royal Palace in Abomey. Depending on the season, we may have the chance to experience one of the tribal mask festivals, either 'Gelede' or 'Egun'. (BL)

Day 13 | GANVIE Crossing Lake Nokwe by boat we reach Ganvie, a wonderfully picturesque village belonging to the Tofinou tribe, built entirely on teak stilts. We spend the night in a traditional stilt house in the village. (BLD)

Day 14 | OUIDAH - TOGO Ouidah is considered the spiritual capital of voodoo and we visit the Python temple and have the chance to visit a traditional healer and possibly to take part in an authentic voodoo ceremony. We continue to Lome, in Togo. (BLD)

Day 15 | LOME - ACCRA In Lome we visit the biggest ''fetish market'' in West Africa, where monkey skulls, snake skins, batwings, and all the necessary ingredients for preparing magical potions and concoctions can be found. We cross the border back into Ghana. (BL)
