BARBADOS IN A NUTSHELL
Barbados continues to be our clients' most favoured destination with many of you returning year after year – the reasons why are simple. Barbados and our latest selection of hotels offer a level of sophistication, service and style which cannot fail to impress whether you're a regular visitor or experiencing the Caribbean for the first time. At the same time, Barbados has managed to retain it's own truly tropical and unmistakably ‘Bajan’ atmosphere.
Although only 21 miles long by 14 miles wide, Barbados has a surprising diversity of scenery. Just a few miles take you from the tranquillity of the Caribbean west coast, with its luxury hotels and palm fringed beaches, to the dramatic cliffs and wild Atlantic rollers of the eastern coast.
The interior has its own beauty as well. Green and lush, the spine of the island rises to more than 1,000 ft at Mount Hillaby while the rolling hills of the northern tip earned it the name Scotland District, from early settlers. The West Indies v England 4th Test in Barbados is from 1 to 5 April inclusive, making Barbados the hot ticket for travel around Easter 2004.
CARIBTOURS' PERSONAL VIEW
Gemma is a regular visitor: "Barbados has a wonderful atmosphere, whatever you want from your holiday. I just love the fact that you can, if you wish, combine a truly luxurious beach holiday with some fun nightlife, the chance to mingle with the friendly Bajans or, one of my favourites, a picnic amongst local families on the rugged east coast beaches. I would always recommend hiring a mini-moke for a few days to make the most of your stay."
DID YOU KNOW...?
Although British for almost 400 years, tradition tells us that the Spanish who visited Barbados in the early 16th century named the island Los Barbados – the bearded ones – after the Bearded Fig Tree's aerial root system, which resembled a Spanish nobleman's beard.
This highly individual hotel is quietly located in a residential area on the south coast of Barbados, just over the road from the spectacular Enterprise beach.
Little Arches opened its doors in late 2002 and is already a favourite with both the Caribtours team and our clients. It is intimate, friendly, stylish and informal – perfect for those seeking a flavour of Barbados away from the sophistication of the west coast and the buzz of the south coast.
The delightful owners, Jacinta and Mark, ensure that their guests have a memorable stay.
