Lost Cities Of Incas Trek through the magnificent Vilcabamba Range - a rare opportunity to explore beyond conventional Peruvian trekking routes
The aim of this trek is to reach Choquequirao, after Machu Picchu one of the best-preserved major Inca ruins. Following the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire, most of the surviving Inca royalty fled into the Vilcabamba range and beyond, and survived for several decades. The Inca shrines and highways throughout the Vilcabamba were maintained until 1572 when a Spanish expedition finally reached the most remote refuge of the surviving Manco Inca and put an undisputed end to the dynasty. While the route is dominated by the 6000m peaks of Nevados Sacsayroyac and Pumasillo, there is tremendous diversity as we travel up from the cloud forest environment below Machu Picchu, cross the spine of the range, descend to the spectacular canyon of the Apurimac River, and finally climb out into the highlands again.

Trip Profile:
8 days walking with full porterage; altitude maximum 4560 m, average 3000 m. Grade C.

Group & Staff:
Min. 6, max. 16, plus leader and appropriate local staff.

Accommodation:

If you would like a single room or tent on a particular holiday you should contact the office for details. Where we are unable to guarantee single accommodation you may be able to arrange and pay for it locally. If you are a smoker we ask you not to smoke in your room or tent if sharing. Please note on certain trips single accommodation is not available due to local operational conditions.
