Day 1 | VIENTIANE Arrive and check in to your hotel. No meals

Day 2 | LUANG PRABANG Transfer to the airport for a flight to Luang Prabang, the cultural, historical and religious centre of this amazing country. (BD)

Day 3 | LUANG PRABANG Guided tour around Luang Prabang's most impressive sites. The rest of the day is free to relax or explore - hire a bike or wander the leafy streets, stopping at golden temples to chat with the monks. (B)

Day 4 | LUANG PRABANG A full free day to further explore the area. There are many lovely walks with an abundance of temples and scenic waterfalls. (B)

Day 5 | PLAIN OF JARS Today we drive to the ancient and mysterious Plain of Jars. These huge jars are made from a stone not found in the area and no one knows where they come from. Overnight in Xiengkhouang. (BD)

Day 6 | PLAIN OF JARS Guided tour of the plain. The rest of the day is free for you to explore. (B)

Day 7 | VANG VIENG Drive to the beautiful riverside hamlet of Vang Vieng, situated in the heart of stunning limestone karst scenery. You can try inner-tubing, bike riding or walking to local caves and temples. (BD)

Day 8 | VANG VIENG In the morning we take a bike ride through the countryside to local Hmong villages and Buddhist caves. Free afternoon for further exploration. (B)

Day 9 | VIENTIANE Morning drive to Vientiane. In the afternoon we enjoy a guided tour of the city's highlights. (B)

Day 10 | SAVANNAKHET Travel by road to Savannakhet via the elegant town of Thakhet. In the evening you can explore the markets and back streets of this interesting city. (B)

Day 11 | PAKSE Today we venture further south to Pakse. On the way we visit the spectacular hilltribe village of Salavan. (B)

Day 12 | WAT PHU - DON KHONG We take a pleasant boat ride to the amazing Khmer ruins of Wat Phu where we have a guided tour. We then continue to the island of Don Khong, situated in the middle of the Mekong where the river can widen to as much as 14 kilometres before cascading down brilliant waterfalls into neighbouring Cambodia. (B)

Day 13 | DON KHONG Morning boat trip to the Somphamit falls with the chance to spot river dolphins along the way. Return to Don Khong in time to explore the area by bike. There are many quiet roads through small villages and past lush paddy fields, which make for excellent cycling. (BD)

Day 14 | UBON RATCHATANI Drive back into Thailand via Kiet Gong for an elephant ride. We take lunch in an 'elephant village' and an evening flight to Bangkok. (B)

Day 15 | BANGKOK Tour ends after breakfast. (B)
