Namibia is one of the most beautiful and fascinating countries in Africa, but compared to its neighbours is little visited and often ignored. The dunes of the Namib desert are some of the highest and oldest in the world and the Etosha Salt pans are a unique and fascinating environment for game-viewing. Add the Skeleton Coast, Damaraland and Windhoek and this tour lets you explore them all, staying in beautiful and unique properties. You travel by charter flights between the properties, enjoying views of these beautiful landscapes from the air and allowing you additional time at the lodges and camps. |
Day 1 | Depart London on your non-stop flight to Johannesberg. | Day 2 | On arrival you transfer to your flight to Windhoek. On arrival here you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to your hotel, the Hotel Heinitzburg. | Day 3 | You will be transferred to Eros Airport to meet the private charter flight to Sossusvlei. Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp is situated 20 kilometres from Sesriem, the entrance to Sossusvlei within the heart of Namibia's Namib Desert. This is one of the most remarkable sites in the Namib~Naukluft Park and the Namib Desert. Huge towering dunes, the highest in the world, rise dramatically over 1000 feet above the surrounding plains at Sossusvlei itself. The spectacle of changing colours and the lonely Oryx silhouetted against red dunes is one which visitors and photographers from around the world come to savour and capture on film. | Day 4 | On the edge of the oldest desert in the world, this is not a game rich area, however, whatever game we see is interesting and dramatised by the contrast between the desert and animals like Springbok, Gemsbok (Oryx) and Ostrich who manage to survive in these harsh conditions. The rare and elusive Aardvark is occasionally sighted at night, along with Cape Fox, Polecats, Aardwolf and other nocturnal animals.
Activities centre on early morning excursions in 4x4 vehicles to the magnificent Sossusvlei dunes and the "vlei" itself at the end of the Tsauchab River ~ a dry river bed that flows only in years of exceptional rainfall. Breakfasts are served under the spreading camelthorn acacias in Sossusvlei before returning to camp in the midday via the nearby Sesriem Canyon. Afternoon activities are on the property ~ taking in the desert scenery and its unique fauna and flora. | Day 5 | Today you will have a scenic charter flight from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund. On arrival in Swakopmund you will transfer from the airport to Walvis Bay Lagoon for a boat cruise and seafood lunch on the beach (weather permitting). After lunch you will be transferred to your hotel, the Hansa Hotel. The Hansa Hotel was voted the best hotel in Namibia for two consecutive years (1997&1998), and is the perfect base from which to explore Swakopmund, the surrounding desert, and nearby Walvis Base. | Day 6 | You will be transferred from the hotel to Swakopmund Airport. You will take a scenic charter flight from Swakopmund to Damaraland Camp. No camp more effectively displays the sustainability of desert life than this exclusive, luxury - tented experience. Inland from the Skeleton Coast, and often shrouded in early morning mists, Damaraland Camp rests amidst the ancient valley carved by the ephemeral Huab River. With exceptional guides and some patience, the reward can be the elusive Desert Elephant and the Black Rhinoceros, both endangered. | Day 7 | Second day at Damaraland Camp. | Day 8 | Today you will take a private charter flight from Damaraland Camp to Ongava Lodge. Etosha is Namibia's premier wildlife park. It has great concentrations of game and there are wonderful views out onto the salt pans which dominate the centre of the park. Ongava is situated on the private thirty thousand hectare Ongava Game Reserve and shares a common border with Etosha on its southern boundary. The lodge offers the best of both worlds; guests have the full Etosha experience but at the same time may take advantage of the great accommodation and service of a small, exclusive lodge and have the opportunity to take night drives and nature walks on the reserve, activities which are not permitted within Etosha. | Day 9 | Second day at Etosha. | Day 10 | Today you will take a private charter flight from Ongava to Okonjima. Okonjima lies nestled in the unspoilt beauty of the Omboroko mountains, part of the Namibian Waterberg Plateau. Situated just 225km North of Windhoek, Okonjima is a pleasant drive from Windhoek and is an ideal stop-over en route to or from the Etosha National Park. Okonjima is home to the AfriCat Foundation and activities include the opportunity to learn more about the Foundation, its' animals and projects. | Day 11 | Second day at Okonjima. | Day 12 | Today you will take a private charter flight from Okonjima to Eros Airport. On arrival at Eros Airport you will be met and transferred back to the Hotel Heinitzburg. | Day 13 | Transfer from the hotel to Windhoek Airport for your flight home. Connect in Johannesberg with your non-stop flight back to the UK. | Day 14 | Arrive UK. |

| Hotel Heinitzburg Originally commissioned by Count von Schwerin as a gorgeous stone castle for his fiancé Margarethe von Heinitzburg in 1914, Heinitzburg today is the home of a lovely hotel. It is built high on a hill, with splendid views across Windhoek and the surrounding Khomas Hochland.
The interior of the old part of the castle boasts some wonderful wood-panelled rooms decorated with works of art by some of Namibia's leading artists. Enjoy cocktails in the elegant Ritterraum (Room of the Knights) before moving across to the beautiful dining room for a sumptuous meal.
Completed in 1996 in the style of the old castle, the new hotel wing is comprised of ten spacious and generously appointed en suite rooms. The rooms offer all comforts and conveniences, such as air-conditioning, television, and telephone, and are very tastefully decorated with Italian ceramic floor tiles, specially created hand-made wood furnishings, and huge four-poster beds.
Hotel Heinitzburg is very conveniently located, just minutes from Windhoek city centre, and within easy reach of the airport. It is owned and managed by Beate Raith, a very friendly and fabulously efficient hostess. Hotel Heinitzburg stands head and shoulders above any other accommodation in Windhoek, and will make your stay in, what is otherwise a relatively unremarkable city, a memorable experience. more >> | Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp The camp is situated on a 7,000 hectare private property with wonderful desert scenery. It affords access to Sossusvlei, but also offers privacy and exclusivity. The property harbours vast desert plains and rugged mountains with views onto the dunes in the distance. The camp has been built near the top of a mountain, using natural materials of brick, rock, timber and thatch, and provides a refuge from the desert. We have only nine guest rooms, each with its own private plunge pool.
The rooms are superbly appointed and offer comfort and atmosphere. The en suite bathrooms also have panoramic views overlooking the plains below and have hot and cold running water, showers and flush toilets. The main living area is under thatch with a pool. We have an outdoor deck where guests enjoy dinner under the stars. The Namib is considered by many to be the finest star~gazing area in Southern Africa. more >> |
