This trip starts in Denver before taking you through the breathtaking Rockies. You then visit Wyoming via the Snowy Range of Mountains and Rawlins. This route allows you to follow part of the Oregon Trail and into Casper. Travel into the real west as you pass many of the areas known for the Indian Wars in the late 1880's and areas where western bandits hung out. (Hole in the Wall Gang). Visit Devil's Tower National Monument, where Close Encounters was filmed. You then into South Dakota through the northern Black Hills and visit Deadwood and Lead. Over night at the Rushmore Express at Keystone near to the base of Mount Rushmore. You then spend a full day exploring the Black Hills including Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Needles Highway and Rapid City. Return to Wyoming for a stop at Fort Laramie National Historic Site - once the most important outpost on the Oregon Trail. Travel into Cheyenne before heading back to Denver for your flight home,

Day 1 | Arrive Denver. Pick up rental car. Overnight
Doubletree Hotel. | Day 2 | Travel to the area of Estes Park and then through the Rocky Mountain National Park via the Trail Ridge Road (12,000ft above sea level). Overnight Bighorn Lodge in Grand Lake. Approx mileage 125 | Day 3 | Travel north to Wyoming via the Snowy Range of Mountains and Rawlins. This route allows you to follow part of the Oregon Trail and into Casper. Overnight Radisson Hotel. Approx mileage 290 | Day 4 | Travel into the real west as you pass many of the areas known for the Indian Wars in the late 1880's and areas where western bandits hung out. (Hole in the Wall Gang). Visit Devil's Tower National Monument, where Close Encounters was filmed. Overnight at Kelly Inn, Spearfish. Approx mileage 225 | Day 5 | Today is spent travelling into South Dakota through the northern Black Hills and includes visits to Deadwood and Lead. Over night Rushmore Express at Keystone near to the base of Mount Rushmore. Approx mileage 220 | Day 6 | Full day for exploring the Black Hills in what may include Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Needles Highway and Rapid City. Return for overnight Rushmore Express. | Day 7 | Return to Wyoming for a stop at Fort Laramie National Historic Site - once the most important outpost on the Oregon Trail. Travel into Cheyenne.
