Salcantay And Ausangate A tough, two-part, high altitude trek in the Cuzco area
This demanding trek explores the Vilcabamba and Vilcanota, the two ranges of the Cuzco area. The trek starts with an extended version of the traditional Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, skirting the peak on Mt. Salcantay and crossing the continental divide into the rainforests of the Amazon basin. Then we move to the Cordillera Vilcanota. At 6372m, Nevado Ausangate is the highest mountain in the vicinity of Cuzco. Towering, ice-capped and remote, it is a complicated sub-system of glaciated peaks, high mountain valleys, or quebradas, and beautiful lakes, rich in Andean wildlife. With llamas as pack animals it feels like moving back in time. If you appreciate the solitude of the mountains and majestic landscapes, it is spectacular walking country. Previous trekkers returned convinced that its mountain scenery is scarcely equalled in any range in the world. Trip Profile 13 days walking with full porterage; altitude maximum 5100m, average 3800m. Grade C.

Group & Staff:
Min. 6, max. 15, plus leader and appropriate local staff.

On some trips it is not possible to guarantee single accommodation for the whole tour; where this is the case further information and prices can be found in the Trip Notes. If you would like a single room or tent on a particular holiday you should contact the office for details. Where we are unable to guarantee single accommodation you may be able to arrange and pay for it locally. If you are a smoker we ask you not to smoke in your room or tent if sharing. Please note on certain trips single accommodation is not available due to local operational conditions.
