The Dordogne river passes through some of France’s most beautiful scenery in a region that has appealed to the British for a long time. The combination of beautiful views, sleepy villages, fine French food and delicious wine makes it virtually impossible to resist! This circular route starts and finishes in the riverside town of Souillac, and heads out to explore the upland ‘causse’ and the wooded valleys and lowlands. The landscape is dotted with ancient farms and dry-stone walls, walnut groves and hidden hamlets - a perfect rural landscape. As the road winds through shady oak woodland, the mediaeval castles, walnut-oil mills and Rocamadour cheese farms, and the many welcoming cafés, provide plenty of opportunities to break your journey.Trip Profile: Grade: Easy tp Moderate with relaxed riding on quiet roads.
