This is a classic lodge safari that covers many of the most famous areas in the north, which include the best wildlife areas in Tanzania, such as Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. You will stay in some of the best available lodges, situated in beautiful locations to give views out over the Savannah or surrounding countryside. Often you have the luxury of game viewing from the comfort of the lodges outdoor lounges while enjoying a cool drink. All lodges provide en-suite facilities. Tanzania has some of the best wildlife areas in Africa- no less than 25% of this vast country is dedicated to the conservation of wildlife - and names like Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara bring forth images of savannah abounding in wildlife. It is East Africa’s largest country. The bulk of the country is a highland plateau, some of it is semi-desert and the rest savannah and scattered bush. The highest mountains – Meru (4556m/14,943ft) and Kilamanjaro (Africa’s highest at 5895m/19,335ft) – are in the north-east along the border with Kenya. Nowhere else in the world will you see wildebeest, gazelle, zebra and antelope in such enormous numbers – and Tanzania’s characteristic plains make spotting wildlife easy. Blessed with some of the world’s largest game reserves, the country also has one of the highest concentrations of buffalo, crocodile, hippo, hunting dog, chimpanzee and elephant. Tanzania’s widely varying geography accounts for its differing climatic conditions. The altitude of the high plateau considerably tempers what would otherwise be a tropical climate. In many places it can be quite cool at night. The coastal strip along the Indian Ocean and the offshore islands of Pemba, Zanzibar and Mfia have a hot, humid, tropical climate alleviated by sea breezes. Only on the mountain slopes of the north-east does the country enjoy an almost temperate climate for most of the year. |

Day 1 | Depart the UK. | Day 2 | Arrive in Nairobi. You will be met off the flight and transferred to your hotel in the city. The rest of the day is free to relax or explore. | Day 3 | Leave Nairobi early in the morning and drive south towards Namanga, which is at the border of Kenya and Tanzania. After lunch, you will continue to Lake Manyara, where you will spend the night at the Lake Manyara Serena Lodge. As visitors enter the park gate they enter the lush ground water forest, whose tall trees are home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys. Further along the forest opens up into woodlands, grasslands, swamps and finally to the soda lake itself, a sanctuary to over 350 species of bird including flamingo, storks, pelican, sacred ibis, cormorants and Egyptian geese. The park is also noted for its numerous buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippo and range of smaller animals. The most famous spectacle of the park are the tree-climbing lions which are sometimes found spread out on the branchs of acacia trees 6 to 7 metres above the ground. | Day 4 | Drive through the vast Serengeti savannah. In the afternoon you will go on a game drive. Dinner and overnight at the Serengeti Sopa lodge. | Day 5 | A full day game viewing. All meals and overnight at your lodge. The Serengeti is one of the best known wildlife sanctuaries in the world. "Serengeti" is the Masai term for "endless savannah", and it is home to more than 3 million animals. About 35 species of savannah animals can be seen, the most spectacular event being in May/early June when huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelles start their annual migration, attracting in their wake all the large predators and vultures. Other common species include the Hippo, giraffe and eland, and almost 500 bird species. | Day 6 | Travel today to the next lodge on the rim of Ngorongoro, which has a great view of the crater stretching away below your feet. Dinner and overnight at the Ngorongoro Crater Sopa Lodge. | Day 7 | A full day exploring the crater floor. Pick up packed lunches from the Lodge before driving into the crater for game drives. Return to the lodge just before dusk. Dine and stay overnight at a Ngorongoro Lodge. The Ngorongoro Crater, situated 2,286 m. above sea level, is the largest unbroken caldera in the world. Surrounded by very steep walls this natural amphitheatre is home to up to 25,000 larger mammals, almost half of these being zebra and wildebeest. Gazelle, buffalo eland, hartebeest and warthog are also to be seen. Such vast numbers of animals attract plenty of predators, and lion and hyena are easily spotted while cheetah and lleopard are rather more difficult to find.At noon is when the animals seek shelter from the sun. You will enjoy a picnic lunch. Return to your lodge in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight. | Day 8 | Return to Nairobi via Arusha and Namanga arriving in the early afternoon. The rest of the day is free to sightsee or for any last minute souvenir shopping. Overnight in your Nairobi hotel. | Day 9 | Transfer to the airport in time for your flight back to the UK. | Day 10 | Arrive back in the UK. |

| Lake Manyana Serena Lodge It is difficult to imagine a more spectacular setting for Lake Manyara Serena Lodge - on the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment, overlooking the Great Rift Valley and the stunning Manyara soda lake. Tree-climbing lions are but one lure. The extraordinary birdlife has made this place world-renowned among ornithologists, who come to observe the masses of pink flamingos and great birds of prey.
The abundant birdlife inspired the design of Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge - swooping curves are complemented by soft, geometric patterns; stylish murals depict bird migration patterns. The circular shape of the buildings is a tribute to indigenous architectural traditions more >> | |
